The spaciousness of the sky is important to me, both in my art and my perspective of life. So too are the comfort and ease of water and the grounding security of earth. Wading birds are denizens of all these realms, and I feel uplifted whenever I immerse myself in their world — whether I’m spending hours on a photo shoot or days at the easel working on a large canvas. When delivering “Song of the Cypress” to the Georgetown Art & Wine Walk today (see previous post), it struck me that I’ve never taken the time to gather together this series of seven wading bird portraits. All but “At First Light” are set in a South Carolina cypress swamp, all are acrylic on canvas.
