Nearly two years ago I took a photo of two varieties of aloe during a memorable stroll with my son Peter through the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden. I was drawn to the textures, the play of light, and the spiraling exuberance of leaves, and so I printed it out. Pleased to say, the 12 x 18 black-and-white photo now hangs through June 2, 2024, in a juried show at the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum Art Museum (see below). Craving a much larger image, I turned it into a charcoal drawing, 39″ x 54″ framed. Just got it back from the frame shop! Working and reworking this large piece was very satisfying.

Charcoal, PanPastel and graphite on Rives BFK paper.
